Abstract:
Space-charge wave equations for a crossed-field accelerating beam were derived using a simple sheet charge model. The differential equation for the ac current density in the y-direction is the same as obtained by Smullin or an Otype beam. This suggests that noise-reducing schemes similar to O-type schemes may be used in a crossed-field amplifier. Sole current and noise power measurements made using an amplifier featuring a Kino gun are describe . An electron gun using a steeped cathode is also described. Spectral calculations based on the approximate analysis of the potential minimum are presented the parameters and results are discussed. The model, assumptions, and formulation for a Monte Carlo study of the effects of t e potential minimum on noise in a diode are described. Author
