Abstract:
The purposes of this investigation are to consider possible techniques for application of the theorem given by Goodier to bring a number of problems under the unified treatment of the theorem and to investigate the applicability of other general theorems of linear elasticity to thermoelastic problems. Two basic techniques for application of the theorem have been utilized. The first employs existing isothermal concentrated force solutions as auxiliary problems, with the theorem, to find the thermoelastic displacement of the point of application of the load of the auxiliary problem. The second is a Fourier procedure in which the required thermoelastic displacement is expressed in series form and the coefficients determined using the theorem together with solutions to auxiliary problems with single term Fourier loadings. The orthogonality properties of the circular and other functions used allow separation of the individual coefficients. Author
