Abstract:
This study is the last of five phases of a comprehensive program initiated to develop the USNEL Flight Deck Communications System. Other parts of the system are described in NEL Reports 922, 923, 924, and 925. This part presents an analysis of voice messages passed over the NEL Radio System and the opinions of crew members and researchers as to system effectiveness. An evalu-ATION SHOWED THAT RAPID, RELIABLE INFORMATION EXCHANGE WAS EFFECTED AMONG Air Department personnel on the flight deck and in the island structure during flight operations with jet and propeller aircraft. Most users believed that the radio system expedited operations and reduced confusion. Author
