Abstract:
An analyzer is being developed which will be continuous over the 150-kc to 1-kmc range and will be used in the measurement of the absolute spectral intensity of very short, separated, repetitious pulses. Research indicated that a possible solution to the problem is the use of a series of cascaded and synchronously tuned RLC shunt circuits designated as a CASTA with vacuum-tube isolation between stages. An approximate expression for the impulse response of n-cascaded shunt-tuned circuits is given. A search for some relationship between this expression and an easily measurable characteristic was made. The results showed that when the envelope function itself was considered to be a driving pulse for a succeeding cascaded parallel-tuned RLC circuit, a simple relationship existed between the initiating impulse and the response of this second cascaded set of tuned circuits. An analysis of the response of a CASTA for both single and repeated impulses is appended. An area method for measuring the absolute spectral intensity is also described in an appendix.
