Report Date:

Abstract:
Approximate trajectories for describing the inelastic encounters between rigid diatomic molecules are described. These trajectories, together with quantum mechanical perturbation theory, are used to derive an approximate formulation of the in elastic differential scattering cross sections for such collisions. The quantum mechanical correspondence principle is used when necessary to bridge the gap between classical and quantum descriptions of the problem.
