Abstract:

Thirty-two papers covering the various phases of research are briefly discussed. The topics reviewed are the effects of respiratory arrest on alveolar gases, venous and arterial blood the hemoglobin-oxygen pump changes in kidney function anuria during apnea under diffusion respiration the role of hypercapania the induction of respiratory arrest by procaine the effects of thiopental sodium anesthesia apnea induced by neuromuscular blocking agents changes in cortical electrical activity behavior of heart rate and blood pressure during diffusion respiration the effects of high concentrations of CO2 on the CSF pressure effects of various concentrations of CO2 in O2 on the venous pH effects of the CO2 on plasma volume, thiocyanata space, blood cells, and oxygen capacity the effect of respiratory acidosis on the plasma level of thiopental and on the depth of thiopental sodium anesthesia the relationship between oxygen pressure and the survival time of dogs in diffusion respiration and the effects of the inhalation of 20 CO2 in O2 on antibiotic activity of penicillin and aureomycin.
