Abstract:

A new borate material, BiB3O6 BiBO, has been reported to have extremely high nonlinear optical NLO coefficient. In our investigations we obtained both glass and single crystals of BiBO. Owing to its composition, the material is very viscous when molten. This factor causes serious problems both during synthesis and crystallization of BiBO. In this paper only properties of BiBO glass are reported. We found that for the increase of the long-range ordering the photoinduced optical second harmonic generation SHG shows a maximum, which is shifted towards the lower photoinducing power with the increase of the temperature. Maximal value of SHG was about 0.081 pmV at 1.06 micrometers radiation from YAGNd laser W30MW, tau35ps.
