Abstract:

Advances in automation and controldisplay technology have enabled design effort to focus on how aircrew system interfaces can be created to help perform the mission and to help solve mission problems. Evidence of this development towards a concept of aiding the pilot, rather than replacing pilot functions, comes from recent systems proposed for both ground and airborne mission control and management. Interface design solutions for aircrew systems problems usually evolve pragmatically, based on considerations of convenience, availability, utility, familiarity and operator acceptance.
