Abstract:
The recent and almost monolithic surge in interest in molecular genetics and genetic analysis in general has been complimented to a great degree by recent advances in computer science. For instance, the analysis of protein structure and function - a vital component in assessing causal pathways between low-level genomic phenomena and phenotypic expression - has been greatly aided by contemporary, visualization and high-speed data processing machinery. On another plane, the comparison and analysis of genome sequence data would be virtually impossible without supercomputers.
