Abstract:

This paper describes the proposed next stage of research, in which some of the problems of implementing and validating a Knowledge-Based Autopilot KBAP for a generic high-performance aircraft will be investigated. The proposed latest program will go further in the investigation of real time KBS system design. Known informally as the Cooperative Real-time Intelligent Systems Programme CRISP, it will investigate the implementation and validation of a Knowledge Based Autopilot KBAP. While it is recognised that this problem is probably more appropriately tackled by conventional algorithmic techniques, the KBAP provides a simple, well-defined yet real problem within which to explore, develop, and demonstrate real-time KBS concepts and validation and verification techniques for mission-critical systems.
