Abstract:

Rayleigh-Benard convection is one of the simplest instabilities. It is related to the case of a horizontal layer of a thermally expansive fluid which is confined above and below by rigid plates of good thermal conductivity, submitted to purely vertical adverse thermal gradient adverse means heated from below.
