This paper deals with applications of visualization techniques associated with Digital Image Processing in fluid dynamics. Two typical fluid flow problems of interest for propulsion are selected to illustrate the purpose. 1 The mixing properties of the jet. Laser tomography and light scattering from micro-droplets of oil lead to the quantification of the three dimensional concentration field. 2 The local heat transfer distribution on a heated surface from oblique and co-linear impinging jets. Thermographic imaging system is used. Digitized infrared pictures are processed to provide local and average values of the heat transfer coefficients.
