Abstract:

The development of time marching methods to analyse blades started at Rolls-Royce in the mid seventies, when sufficient computing power was becoming available. It was recognised that such methods had much to offer, especially for transonic and supersonic flows. Since then several different algorithms have been developed to predict both quasi-3D and 3D flows. At present the time-marching methods are used to solve the unsteady EulerNavier-Stokes equations to produce a time steady solution. Future developments are aimed towards predicting loss accurately, and to investigate unsteady affects such as vortex shedding and incoming wakes.
