Summary of Investigations of Engine Response to Distorted Inlet Conditions,
NATIONAL AERONAUTICS AND SPACE ADMINISTRATION CLEVELAND OH LEWIS RESEARCH CENTER
Pagination or Media Count:
A survey is presented of experimental and analytical experience of the NASA Lewis Research Center in engine response to inlet temperature and pressure distortions. There has been a continuing NASA effort over the past decade and a half to improve the understanding of the effects of inlet distortion on engine performance, particularly on the compression system performance. Results of experimental investigations and analytical modeling work at NASA are reviewed together with a description of the hardware and the techniques employed. Distortion devices successfully simulated inlet distortion, and knowledge was gained on compression system response to different types of distortion.
