Very small particles of explosives are less sensitive to impact than larger particles. However, such small RDX particles in TNT give a high melt viscosity. This task was aimed at binding the very small particles together to give aggregates that would not increase the TNT melt viscosity and yet would produce low sensitiveness. Two methods were used for aggregation 1 aqueous slurry process and 2 cast and mill process. In the slurry process, the explosive particles were efficiently stirred in water with polymer dissolved in a solvent. In the cast and down to the desired particle sizes. The aggregate explosives were then blended with TNT in a melt. Sensitiveness tests were run on castings.
