Abstract:

The extremely simplified and stylized scene construction in current computer image generation technology, together with scene dynamics shortcomings present display technology with a grossly inadequate real world simulation one that can be truly called illusionary. Nor is current display technology in better shape. Due to confusion existing within the simulation industry over resolution of the displays, visual systems are underspecified or underdesigned by a factor of about 4 times. This is in addition to low brightness and contrast of saturated colors. If the pilot saw in the real world what he sees in the simulator he would be legally blind These factors are discussed in some detail and possible improvements are suggested. Author
