This paper presents a description of interests and activities involved in the use of robotics and allied technologies for Army field applications in materiel handling roles. This presentation includes 1 Motivators for using robotic technology in this new context 2 Similarities and differences between technology required for robots used in industry and those of interest for field roles 3 A description of some of the Army groups with charters in the robotics research and development areas and 4 A description of two materiel handling, field oriented, robotics demonstration systems.
