Abstract:
Described is the initialization and operation of a distributed sensing system based on the contract net framework. In a departure from earlier systems, task distribution is viewed as a local mutual selection process, a discussion carried on between a node with a task to be executed and a group of nodes that may be able to execute the task. This leads to the use of a control formalism based on a contract metaphor, in which task distribution corresponds to contract negotiation. Author
