Abstract:
In comparison to other MSC career fields psychology has faired extremely well in the 1970s. We have increased our field grade strength considerably and at a percentage which exceeds the average for the Medical Service Corps as a whole. Several new positions have been developed and many senior psychologists are assuming assignments external to traditional clinical or research roles. There is also increased opportunity for internship and post-doctoral fellowship training. On the negative side some good psychologists are leaving active duty after 5-10 years, which is resulting in some vacant positions for FY 1979.
