This paper is concerned with the nonlinear static as well as dynamic analysis of anisotropic plates of rectangular and square geometries. A review of literature indicates 1,2,3 that these geometries are the ones most commonly dealt with in the past. The present approach, however, could be extended to the analysis of plates of some other geometries as well. The nonlinearities investigated here arise due to large deformation or large amplitude vibration and are included in the nonlinear strain-displacement relations. The stress-strain relationship is linear, however, and the material constants of the plate are with reference to an orthogonal system of axes. New type of functions called Self-Generating Functions are used to obtain the linear and nonlinear frequencies in dynamic problems and load-deflection behavior in static problems. Self-Generating Functions of zero-order are polynomials of eight degree for any given boundary conditions of the plate.
