For the calculation of the dynamic behaviour of complex elastic structures in general the Finite Element method is used. In order to yield good approximations of the system behaviour, the physical model is divided in a large number of finite elements. Consequently, an excessive number of degrees of freedom appear in the idealisation of a comlicated structure, but because of the used computer storage capacity it is not always useful, sometimes even impossible, to deal with the resulting large matrices.
