Abstract:
As part of a continuing research and development program in embedded computer systems, McDonnel Douglas Corporation MDC is developing a high-speed MIL-STD-1750A microprocessor. The central processing unit consists of three integrated circuits, which together from a 1750A processor capable of performing the DAIS instruction mix at greater than 900 KIPS. The technology used in the 1750A microprocessor is a mature complementary metal oxide semiconductorsilicon on sapphire CMOSSOS process in use at MDC. This is a radiation-tolerant, low-power, high-speed technology that makes is possible to achieve the processors high throughput while consuming less than 2 watts of power. This paper describes the architecture of the processor and the user-oriented approach taken in the development of the processor and the user-oriented approach taken in the development of the processor and its support tool.
