At the first workshop, the authors presented the results calculated by three kinds of low speed theories 1 the modified low speed theory MLST, 2 the conventional one LST, and 3 Guevels theory. Among them, the results of MLST agreed comparably well with Dawsons. He used the Rankine source and the same free surface condition as MLST for wall sided hull, as later pointed out by Mori. This fact encouraged us to adopt MLST and LST again for calculating the wave-resistance of the vertical cylinders with an ogival and an elliptical water planes. The authors also present the purely numerical results which are obtained by the fundamental equations of the low speed theory and Chans finite difference scheme. Computations are made for the same vertical cylinders. Through the computations performed, the authors concluded that if the results obtained by the low speed theory are fin, the analytical method is still effective in evaluating wave-resistance, because the computer time is very short.
