Abstract:
A condition on the numerical flux for approximations to scalar, non-convex conservation laws is introduced, and shown to guarantee convergence to the correct physical solution. These considerations lead to a simple, closed form, analytic expression for the solution to the Riemann problem for scalar, nonconvex, conservation laws. A systematic approach is presented for converting these first order accurate convergent approximations to second order accurate, variation diminishing, entropy condition, satisfying approximations. The technique is extended to systems of equations of inviscid, compressible flow in general geometries, using a high resolution version of the authors scheme.
