Abstract:

To facilitate early identification of basic trainees with significant psychiatric problems, the Air Force Medical Evaluation Test AFMET Project has been conducted by the Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center since June 1975. In fiscal year 1982, the USAF saved 6,340,430 by release of those trainees who were neither suitable for nor adaptable to USAF duties and military life. Since the project has been described in other papers and presentations, this article focuses on the evolutionary dynamic changes during the first seven years to accomplish the fine tuning suggested by General B. Davis. As data was collected and analyzed, improvements became possible and these were implemented as soon as feasible. Author
