This paper summarizes work performed to date on a simplified US Army Materiel Systems Analysis AMSAA developed model for calculating first order estimates of total program costs for helicopters. The term total program cost is used rather than life cycle cost because the time period of concern may not encompass the entire life cycle of the aircraft system. Two models are discussed one is simplified so it can be programmed on desk calculators, and the other more extensive for high speed digital computer application. A version of the simplified model is presented. It is suitable for programming on desk calculators which have a capacity for at least 800 program steps plus 70 storage registers. The extensive model was developed for use on the Ballistic Research Laboratories Electronic Scientific Computer BRLSEC. The original version of this model was first used on BRLESC early in 1969. Since then it has been modified extensively to suit changing study needs.
