Abstract:

The purpose of this paper is to describe the hierarchy of mathematical models in use at the Rodman Laboratory to aid in the design of weapon systems, and to project the future growth and application of this hierarchy. Advances in computer technology and increased access to the computer have made possible the development and application of a broad spectrum of computer models. As an aid in describing this modeling hierarchy, the models have been divided into three broad categories or levels engineering and subsystem modeling, performance modeling, and effectiveness modeling. As indicated by the dotted lines, the differences in the types of modeling are not distinct, i.e., considerable overlap exists.
