Abstract:

In this paper the following aspects are treated a the necessity to pay attention to the earthing conditions of cable sheaths or screening wires when calculations are made concerning the current in these conductors caused by induction from power lines the electromotive force emf from induction in telecommunication circuits and the screening factor due to compensating effects from sheaths and screening wires. Formulae are derived in the general case when a sheath or a screening wire is terminated to earth by arbitrary impedances. For some special terminating impedances the formulae are arranged for practical use. b calculation of the screening factor of armoured cables, where the longitudinal impedance is not constant along the cable c calculation of the resulting screening wire d measurements in the field of propagation properties of cable sheaths or screening wires and e wave propagation along two screening conductors. The mathematical treatment of this problem is not difficult. The numerical calculation is, however, rather complex. Author
