Resonance absorption spectroscopy has been used to measure oxygen atom concentrations in shock heated H2-O2-Ar and D2-O2-Ar mixtures. Rich, lean and stoichiometric compositions have been studied in the temperature range 1000 - 2500 K. Under all conditions studied, the hydrogen-oxygen reaction could be adequately described by a small number of elementary reactions, and the rate constants could be deduced for several of them.
