The region of the shock wave close to a wall is subject to theoretical and experimental investigations. For the theoretical descrption of the flowfield the direct Monte Carlo simulation method is used. The theoretical results are compared with experimental data, obtained with a multi-beam laser differential interferometer in a low density shock tube. The influence of the wall boundary layer on the shock structure and the shock curvature will be discussed as a function of the shock strength, the intermolecular potential and the accommodation coefficient at the wall.
