Abstract:

Laboratory testing apparatus is described which can be used to simulate the launch loading of penetrator and sabot components from kinetic energy penetrator rounds. Load and deflection to failure of production components has been measured and compared for different materials and configurations. Results are described from penetrators made from a uranium alloy and two tungsten alloys. Results from sections of sabots are described, including two aluminum alloys and different configurations.
