A new class of lubricants based on the general features of archaebacterial lipids but not limited to lipids solely extracted from archaebacteria is described. These lubricantadditive molecules have the following features bipolarity, ether bonds and branched biphytanyl chains. They can be double chained or single chained. This new class has the potential to be highly thermally and chemically stable due to the above mentioned features.
