A metallic glass ribbon of the formula FewBxSiyCz wherein 0.78 or w or 0.83, 0.13 or x or 0.17, 0.03 or y or 0.07, 0.005 or z or 0.03, and wxyz1, is annealed to remove mechanical strains and exposed to a magnetic field in the plane of the ribbon and transverse to the long axis of the ribbon. The resulting metalic glass ribbons have very large magnetic coupling coefficients k330.9. The treated ribbons are useful in magnetostrictive transducers and in passive listening devices such as hydrophones or pressure sensors. Iron, Boron, Silicon, Carbon, Patents, PAT-CL-310-26. MJM.
