The assembly of electrical components into kits is accomplished by a computer controlled robot rotary rack carousel a work station an elevator, and a system controller. The carousel houses a systematically stored supply of electrical components in trays. The elevator has a rotating turntable with two oppositely oriented motor driven tray inserting and extracting grippers which supply the trays to the work station so that the robot can assemble the kits. The work station has two try receiving tables which are alternately shuttled side-to-side to supply the kitting robot with trays of components from the carousel via the elevator. In operation, the robot arm picks parts from tray 1 with the dual indexing table in a first predetermined position. During this time empty tray 2 is returned to the carousel or storage. When the turntable rotates, tray 3 is slid in position on the empty indexing table. After tray 1 is emptied the tables shuttle sideward and tray 1 is returned to the elevator turntable while tray 3 is emptied. The cycle is then repeated.
