The present invention relates to coupling the output of cooled detectors to receivers which require a large field of view and more particularly to a means of increasing the field of view at the input of an infrared optical fiber. The input end of an infrared fiber is configured to increase the field of view to 90 deg measured at the - 3dB point. The input end of the fiber is ground and polished to a tapered cone. A small flat width diameter approximately 15 of the fiber diameter is polished at the end of the taper. This cone refracts incoming rays so that these are transmitted within the fiber at smaller angles with respect to the optic axis.
