Abstract:
An optical system for minimizing skew rays, along the z axis, inherent in semiconductor lasers is disclosed. The beams emitted by semiconductor lasers in the x-z and y-z planes have different points of divergence. The point of divergence in the x-z plane oscillates or shifts about the mean point along the centerline of the beam. The present invention provides an effective stabilization of the point of divergence in the x-z plane. Effective stabilization is accomplished by positioning an appropriate lens between the laser diode, which has on its rear surface a high reflection coating, and a partially reflecting output mirror.
