A nontoxic smoke generator for simulating the smoke of a fire. The nontoxic smoke generator comprises a cylindrical housing, a vaporization chamber mounted within the cylindrical housing, a preheating coil wound around the periphery of the cylindrical housing for preheating a liquid, and a nozzle connected to one end of the preheating coil for spraying the liquid against the inner surface of the vaporization chamber. Compressed air which is heated by a pair of heater elements is then fed to the nontoxic smoke generator and circulated around the periphery of the vaporization chamber in a helical pattern so as to provide a maximum rate of heat transfer to the vaporization chamber. This, in turn, vaporizes the liquid so as to produce a nontoxic smoke. Author
