Abstract:

In the patent, a method and apparatus are provided for a novel continuous, automated melt-pour process for high explosives, such as TNT, wherein flaked high explosive is continuously introduced into a vessel containing an agitated pool of the molten explosive. This provides a high ratio of heating surface to volume of explosive and the molten explosive is continuously pumped to a remote shell loading station through a heated pipe system. This system is provided with detonation traps which prevent propagation of an explosion.
