Abstract:

Underwater acoustic propagation measurements have been made to the north east of Australia, primarily in the Coral and Solomon Seas. A few measurements were made in the Tasman Sea. The resulting data set has been analysed to provide acoustic bottom loss as a function of frequency and grazing angle for a range of sites. The experiments and the analysis are described, together with the results. The variability from site to site is considerable, sometimes even in areas which are geologically of the same province.
