Abstract:

This report includes an analysis of all USAF fixed-wing aircraft combat losses in Southeast Asia from 1962 through 1973. Special attention is paid to aircraft loss rates, crewmember survival rates, threats encountered, and systems damaged. Specific comparisons are made among the F-4, F-105 and F-100 aircraft. The effect of one vs two engines upon aircraft survivability is addressed. An assessment of the effectiveness of fuel system vulnerability reduction modifications is made.
