Abstract:
Experimental results in the development of methodology for legibility studies and a preliminary investigation of dial reading were obtained from six reading panels of 12 instrument dials and calling the indicated values. Three dial designs, each in three sizes and differing in sub-divisions, were used. It was concluded that errors are less frequent and speed of reading faster for larger and more finely graduated dials. Errors are reduced also when accuracy is emphasized.
