The first-quarter results for a program to study the compatibility of columbium with hydrogen environments are presented. An environmental tensile testing machine for testing of columbium at high temperatures and high hydrogen pressures has been ordered. The apparatus necessary for the measurement of hydrogen solubility and rates of absorption and desorption is nearly completed. Auxiliary devices have been designed and built. The hydrogenwater vapor experimental apparatus has been completed and checked out for a hydrogenwater vapor ratio of 1.
