Abstract:
Science Applications International Corporation has developed an Integrated Systems Performance Assessment ISPA model for the evaluation of space nuclear reactor design concepts. This modeling effort has been undertaken in support of the Space Power and Thermal Management Division of the U.S. Air Force Phillips Laboratory. The goal of Phase I of this project was to demonstrate the ISPA methodology by developing a simple model that quantitatively evaluates the performance of conceptual space nuclear reactor designs while considering the complexities and interdependencies among established evaluation criteria. The model that has been developed is capable of quantitatively assessing the performance of two proposed space nuclear reactor design concepts by considering the individual and integrated performance of twenty-eight design attributes and using those results to evaluate thirty-eight weighted acceptance criteria.
