This paper identifies three major roles for the Chief Information Officer CLO for improving crisisemergency management response--especially in the environment of the 21st Century where response to situational complexities will place increased emphasis on knowledge-based information system solutions. The three roles identified are 1 the CIO and corporate information management CIM, 2 the CIO and information systems management, and 3 the CIO and crisisemergency management.
