Abstract:

Toxicologic processes often involve extremely low concentrations of biologically active substances. These substances can be detected, localized and quantitated by attaching appropriate radiolabels and subsequently performing autoradiography for varying periods of time ranging from a few days to many months. The objective of this research was to demonstrate the feasibility of reducing this long data collection period to 10 to 100 times while maintaining the advantage of spatial resolution inherent in autoradiography. The operating parameters of a scintillation model were established and tested. A photon-limited camera and imaging system were selected and their characteristics optimized.
