Abstract:

The genetics of enterotoxingenesis in S. aureus is being pursued. Enterotoxin B SEB has been shown to exist as both a chromosomal and plasmid gene in methicillin resistant strains. Most of these exhibit chromosomal genes although 37.5 possess a 1.15 Mdal plasmid which codes for SEB. Either genetic arrangement appears genetically linked to methicillin resistance although actual physical linkage has been ruled out. The association seems to be mediated by a tetracycline resistance plasmid.
