Abstract:

Four potential aromatic rodlike polymer systems were screened for potential use in ordered polymer films. High molecular weight polybenzobisthiazoles were prepared from a new monomer, 2.5- diaminodithiohydroquinone dihydrochloride. The isomeric polybenzobisthiazoles from 4.6-diaminodithioresorcinol dihydrochloride were obtained with low molecular weights due to monomer instability. Poly3.5- diphenylbenzobisimidazoles were obtained by a two step procedure.
