Abstract:

The development of improved barrier materials for the construction of flexible aircraft engine containers in conjunction with a newly developed closure device DSPS Report No. 76-17 has been completed. An extensive investigation was conducted on the properties of flexible plastic laminates and composites for barrier materials. Flexible containers fabricated from the selected barrier materials are stronger, tougher, and offer greater resistance to environmental elements than previous materials, providing over one year protection without redesiccation. They are easily installed and removed from the aircraft engine. Field tests are recommended before approval for production quantities.
