It concludes with a presentation of some of the proposals that have been made for the defense of NATO with fewer men. Chapter 2 deals with the proposal that NATO adopt a short war strategy rather than a long war strategy. Chapter 3 deals with MBFR and SALT and the tactical nuclear weapons question and its relationship to the long versus short war debate. Chapter 4 presents a discussion of the doctrine, tactics and force structure and their rationale, that one country--The Federal Republic of Germany--has adopted as part of her short war strategy.
