We, as have others, have noted that P. chabaudi infection is contaminated with E. coccoides and that in mice this infection becomes very prominent as P. chabaudi parasitemia develops. We have isolated this E. coccoides and we find it produces a high parasitemia with moderate to severe anemia in mice 3-5 days after infection. All mice have usually recovered from parasitemia and anemia within 2-3 weeks after infection. We have tested the sera of mice that have recovered from E. coccoides infection in the TBF test using serum antigen of P. Iophurae duck origin. We invariably get positive reactions with titers varying from 120 - 1320 with sera of our recovered mice and serum from our uninfected mice are usually negative. jes
